Abstract:
This paper investigates the impact of early childhood education on the performance of self-declared black and mixed race students in the 5th year of elementary school. A quantile regression model weighted by propensity scores, derived from the Propensity Score Matching (PSM) method, was used. The results indicate positive and statistically significant effects of participation in daycare and preschool on academic performance, even after controlling for variables such as socioeconomic and regional characteristics. It was observed that the impact of early childhood education seems to be more pronounced among students with higher academic performance.
