Convergence, the New Way of Doing Journalism

Abstract: This article approaches media convergence as a way to practice journalism. The paper discusses the models of convergence applicable to the Romanian media and the specific areas they cover: ownership, tactic, structure, information-gathering and presentation. It also analyses examples of media outlets from print, broadcast and online, that embraced convergence at various levels. Critics of convergence argued that the model of multitasking journalist involved in all media and master of none is a flaw in quality journalism. The article shows that the model of multimedia journalist might function successfully in certain cases. Nevertheless, journalists of the future work for multimedia platforms that use the unique strengths of each medium to create complex products suitable for interactive audience.
