Aspects Concerning the Content Particularities of the Romanian Sports Press

Abstract: Football benefits of a privileged status in the Romanian sports press. Although this tendency can also be found in the European press, football proportion within the domestic media environment, greatly exceeds the continental average. The mechanism through which a sport becomes favourite of the mass media, in defiance of performance absence, is apparently hard to justify in a country that enjoys the tradition and exceptional results in sports such as gymnastics and handball. The almost exclusively positioning of a certain particular sport, supported by media presentation of various affects of its characters from outside the game field, seem to have finally led to a successful commercial formula, in which other sports and their values do not find their place. The analyze of the evolution of the main specialized newspapers, in the context of press development at national level, after 1990, connected to the punctual study of the printed content achieved during the Beijing 2008 Olympic Games, suggests that the mono-sport layout represents the expression of an agenda effect.
