Typology of the “one day hero” as a media symbolic construct

Abstract: The hero has passed the traditional mythology and has adapted to the modern times. It is through the mass media that the transition to a new imaginary was accomplished. The need for models is fed and suggested by all cultural outlets, particularly by the press and the cinema. Lucian Boia states that “no community can do without «heroes» and «saviours», both in daily life and in the sense of remembering the historical tradition. [...] Those people «different than us» belong to the mystical realm of the imaginary and are caught in sacral structures. Even in a secularized version of the modern world, their actions still retains a part of the original transcendent meaning” (Boia, 2011: 306).
