Abstract: This research analyses the emotions in two different areas: the journalistic products and the public comments of the readers/viewers. Exploring the online mediatization of the Germanwings plane crash in March 2015 in Romanian media, the researcher used content analysis to identify the main emotional frames that appeared in articles and public sphere. The focus is on the shift that appeared in expressed emotions (in both journalistic discourse and public comments) after the breaking of the news that the crash was an intentional suicidal act by the co-pilot of the plane. We used content analysis, combining both qualitative and quantitative methods, in order to prove that readers used the same emotional framing suggested by journalists when expressing their thoughts on the subject. The findings also showed that, when confronted with emotions such as hatred and anger, the public’s reaction tends to develop faster and more to the extreme than the proposed framing of the media specialists.
