An Analysis of Competition in the Russian Banking Sector

Abstract: The paper evaluates competition in Russian banking sector with the use of methodology of the sectoral markets theory. Basing on the existing methods of analysis of competition, the authors suggest a model for an empirical research, which takes into account of such operational particularities of the national banking sector as segmentation of the market for consumers of banking services and a special role of Sberbank on some markets. The empirical analysis is conducted on the basis of the suggested model with the use of the Russian banks' balance-sheet reporting data..
