Who are the leading economists in Russia?

Irina Dezhina and Vladimir Dashkeev

Research Paper Series, 2008, 21

Abstract: This paper summarizes the results of an empirical study, conducted in order to compile a list of the leading economists currently working in Russia. It determines the names of those who may be called the leading Russian economists. The work was based on a combined approach, including counting the number of journal publications by the economists, including foreign publications, as well as expert survey to identify the names of the economists who have the greatest recognition and popularity among the colleagues. As a result of the evaluation, the authors come to conclusion that it is impossible to produce a single rating list of Russian economists, and presently there are several scientific communities in Russia, but they hardly communicate with each other.
