A Hybrid Compensation Topology for Battery Charging System Based on IPT Technology

Abstract: Based on the double-sided LCC (DLCC) compensation topology circuit, a battery charging method is proposed to meet various charging requirements. Firstly, mathematical model was obtained by modeling primary and secondary sides of DLCC. The current gain and voltage gain of the inductive power transfer (IPT) system are derived. Then, taking into account the smooth conversion of charging mode, the parameter configuration conditions for constant current (CC) output and constant voltage (CV) output are designed systematically. Finally, after choosing parameters, the CC and CV modes can be achieved by adding one switch and an auxiliary capacitor. With few additional components and non-sophisticated control, both cost and complexity can be significantly reduced. An experimental prototype with 64 V charging voltage and 1A charging current is built. The experimental results show that the charging voltage and current fluctuation of the system are small and the method can meet the above requirements.
