Research on Differentiated Lightning Protection of Overhead Distribution Lines under Continuous Lightning Strikes

Abstract: Distribution lines are an important component of a power system. Lightning disasters have serious adverse effects on the reliability of the power supply in distribution networks. In response to the current lack of research on lightning protection in distribution networks under continuous lightning strikes, we built a transient simulation model and calculated the lightning withstanding level and lightning outage rate of distribution lines under continuous lightning strikes. In addition, the impact of different factors on the lightning withstanding level and lightning outage rate of distribution lines under continuous lightning strikes was calculated for different lightning protection strategies. Finally, differentiated lightning protection strategies based on the lightning outage rate calculation were proposed.
