Ad usum delphini: A Primer in "New Economy Geography"

Gianmarco Ottaviano

Giornale degli Economisti, 2000, vol. 59, issue 1, 89-116

Abstract: The aim of the paper is to survey the basic insights of the so-called «new economic geography». This is achieved by developing a streamlined analytical framework that shows how pecuniary externalities, associated with increasing returns and imperfect competition, can lead to the agglomeration of industry as regions integrate.
