Local Effects of Manufacturing Employment Growth in Italy

Guido de Blasio and Carlo Menon ()

Giornale degli Economisti, 2011, vol. 70, issue 3, 101-112

Abstract: For Italy’s case, we estimate the local labor variation – both in tradable and nontradable sectors – due to an exogenous shift in local employment in tradable sectors. The results show that the local impact of employment growth in the tradable sectors is zero. We highlight some possible explanations for these findings. We also discuss the role of our results for the assessment of location-based policies.
