Niveaux et degrés d'intégration des " modernités " chez les chefs traditionnels: l'exemple du Niger

Abstract:
The changes of the traditional position of the chiefs in Niger provided the impulse for a comprehensive survey of their attitudes to modernity (non-traditional new elements and phenomena). 43 in-depth interviews revealed an unexpected image of these chiefs who have an affirmative attitude towards the official language of the country (62.8%) as well as to the reform of their status position (77%). These findings make a contribution towards a revision of the views of the territorial elite and their potential role within current democratization and decentralization programmes.
