Verschärfte Medienkontrolle oder Protektionismus?

Journal of Current Chinese Affairs - China aktuell, 2006, vol. 35, issue 5, 83-90
Abstract:
The new "Measures for Administering the Release of News and Information in China by Foreign News Agencies" have been widely criticized. The article analyses the arguments for a stronger control on media in the PRC on one hand and for a better competitiveness of the Chinese press agency Xinhua on the other. The author states that the new regulations have already been part of the media politics in the past and that only by taking in account the convictions of Chinese journalists in summer 2006 there are enough signals for a stronger media control under the Hu-Wen Administration. The article concludes that the balancing between commercialisation and propaganda in the media politics is being continued.
