Katrin Willmann

Journal of Current Chinese Affairs - China aktuell, 2007, vol. 36, issue 3, 61-76

Abstract: The 1st of July 2007 marks the 10th anniversary of Hong Kong’s return to the PRC under the formula of “one country, two systems”. Although this have been turbulent years for the economic and political development of the Special Administrative Region, the trust of the Hong Kong people in the Chinese leadership reaches new heights and the trust in the future of Hong Kong is steadily growing. This article traces the economic and political developments of the past ten years, especially the developments under the administration of Tung Chee-hwa and Donald Tsang, analyses the relationship between Hong Kong and Mainland China and finally takes a look at the challenges lying ahead.
