Abstract: This paper analyzes the effect on income inequality in Israel of macroeconomic variables, such as inflation and unemployment, and of the degree of openness to international trade. A distinction is made between unexpected and expected inflation. The results of the empirical investigation that covers the 1967-1999 period indicate that the rate of unexpected inflation, the rate of unemployment and the degree of openness to international trade do not affect equally all the income deciles.
