Abstract: The fact that fossil fuel consumption is very high today is seen as the main cause of global warming. Therefore, the issue of carbon emissions emerges as an important research topic in academic writing. In this context, while tourism contributes to the economic growth of a country, it can also negatively affect the environmental quality.Because a sector that includes activities such as travel and accommodation is likely to generate a significant increase in carbon emission. In this context, in the study, the effect of tourism on carbon emissions in the 10 countries that receive the most tourists in the world, by considering the period of 1995-2018, was examined by panel data analysis. Two different models were used in the research in which tourism was represented by the number of tourists. In the first model, carbon emission is dependent; tourism is the independent variable. Similarly in the second model, carbon emission is the dependent variable. In this model, tourism and oil consumption are also independent variables. The oil consumption series is included in the second model as a control variable. In the empirical findings obtained for the first model; It has been understood that tourism has a positive effect on carbon emission. A similar result was obtained in the second model, and it was observed that both tourism and the oil consumption series used as a control variable in the model had a positive effect on carbon emission.
