Abstract: From the 1960s a number of theories developed dealing with the concepts of Foreign Direct Investment and Multi-National Enterprises. Much of the new theorising was subsequently integrated into John Dunning’s »eclectic paradigm« which still today takes a central position in the business theory of international production. Significant parts of the contributions to the theories of foreign direct investments had, however, been presented in a coherent and systematic way by the Danish economist Arne Lund in an article in Nationaløkonomisk Tidsskrift in 1944. The purpose of this paper is to present Lund’s argumentation and give Lund’s article, and not least its understanding of entrepreneurship and business dynamics, the recognition it deserves as an early and sophisticated contribution to the theory of foreign international investments.
