Abstract:
It is argued that due to a number of special characteristics of the Faeroese economy, the crowding out mechanism has historically been relatively weak on the Faeroe Islands compared to Denmark and may continue to be relatively weak, even though a number of institutional factors have changed in recent years and probably increased the crowding out effect somewhat. Furthermore, we argue that there might not be full crowding out even in the long run. The consequences for economic policy on the Faeroe Islands are briefly discussed.
