James Anderson, Fisheries and Regional Economic Development in Scotland

Salim Rashid ()

History of Economic Ideas, 2009, vol. 17, issue 1, 10-30

Abstract: James Anderson was a contemporary of Adam Smith who is known primarily for having developed what subsequently came to be known as the Ricardian theory of rent. Anderson’s primary concern however was the economic development of Scotland and he had a say in the policy measures undertaken in the 1780s. This article presents Andersons far sighted views on Infrastructure, Regional planning and the development of new industries in a poor economy such as Scotland was in the 1780s.
