François Gény and Edouard Lambert. Two Legal Scholars on the Path of the Relationships between Economics and the Law

Thierry Kirat

History of Economic Ideas, 2015, vol. 23, issue 3, 225-242

Abstract: The paper explores the early 20th century conceptions of the relationships of economics and the law of two prominent French legal scholars: François Gény and Edouard Lambert. They have been innovating in legal science and were arguing that law should work closely with the social sciences, including sociology and economics. Gény and Lambert deconstructed the idea of an autonomous science of law. Their insights into law, society and the economy are quite similar to the key issues raised within the modern Institutional Law and Economics paradigm.
