Relationship between children and parents after the transition to distance learning

Abstract:
The issue analyzes the changes in the relationship between children and parents after the transition to distance learning due to the COVID-19 pandemic. It considers how childcare is organized while schools are closed, whether the communication between parents and children has changed, and the number of joint activities. Particular attention is paid to the participation of fathers in the leisure of schoolchildren. The analysis is based on the results of a survey of parents of students on the transition to distance learning conducted in May 2020. More than 1,800 people from 15 regions took part in the survey. Almost half of the parents consider the child to be old enough and do not experience problems with supervision during distance learning; in 30% of families during this period children were looked after by non-working relatives (or a nanny), and in every fifth family - by relatives working remotely from home. On average, parents began to spend a little more time with their child. This dynamic is more pronounced in families with older children.
