Abstract:
The issue provides recommendations for school principals and teachers regarding communication with parents of students in the context of the mass transition of schoolchildren to distance learning caused by the spread of the COVID-19. In developing the recommendations, analytical materials prepared by the World Bank, UNICEF and PTO were used, as well as the results of a survey of parents on the involvement of children in distance learning and their difficulties. The survey was conducted in May 2020 with the participation of more than 1,800 people from 15 regions. When switching to distance learning, the most common technical problems were: failures of distance learning platforms (noted by 59.8% of respondents), difficulties with Internet access (45.7%), malfunctioning of electronic devices (37.8%). The involvement of adults in children's education has increased. They have additional roles: “psychologist” (60%), “manager”, “technical support” (51%), and “tutor” (45%). Only 16% of parents can easily cope with helping a child to master the school curriculum. Under these conditions, one of the priorities should be the psychological well-being of families. For this, it is necessary to reduce the requirements for students; take into account the degree of parental involvement when conducting distance learning; help families organize and occupy the child's time; identify groups of parents and students who are especially in need of help.
