Abstract: The paper examines the indicators of school staffing and key characteristics of the teaching staff in Russia. The main personnel limits are analyzed, including the context of quantitative growth of the school population and changes in the requirements of Federal State Educational Standards for primary, basic, and secondary General education. The study focuses on age and qualification indicators of the school staff. The analysis is based on data from Federal statistical observation, OECD educational research, as well as the results of sociological surveys of the All-Russian People Front (NGO).- In Russia, the number of students per teacher in primary schools is significantly higher than the OECD average (21.1 vs. 15), while in primary schools it is significantly lower than the OECD average (10.4 vs. 13).- There is a growing shortage of teaching staff in Russian schools. According to a survey by All-Russian People Front (NGO), more than half of the teachers reported a shortage of subject teachers in their schools.- More than a quarter of schoolteachers are over 55 years old. The share of teachers in this age category is growing every year. The ""aging"" of the pedagogical corps causes an increase in the personnel deficit and affects its qualification characteristics.
