Monitoring of Education Markets and Organizations (MEMO), 2020, issue 22, 1-8

Abstract: The information material analyzes the issues of distance learning. The level of involvement of the population in online learning processes is evaluated; gender, age, and other socio-demographic features of the demand for distance education services for adults (over 15 years of age) in the country are considered. The study is based on data from the Federal statistical survey on the use of information technologies and information and telecommunications networks by the population, conducted by Rosstat in 2019.- Overall, the demand of the country's adult population for various online educational services is still quite low. In terms of the level of nationals' involvement in relevant Internet activities, Russia is significantly inferior to many European countries. The condition of forced self-isolation in the first half of 2020 can serve as a trigger for transferring a significant part of educational processes to the digital environment.- Young people (up to and including 24 years of age) are most actively using the opportunity to get an education or improve their skills online.- On average, women are slightly more likely than men to use educational services offered on the Internet.- One of the limiting factors for the development of online educational services is the low level of digital skills, which is especially important for middle-aged and older people.
