Abstract:
The analytical material compares Russian school education with foreign education systems. There were analyzed: financing of school education, including per capita education, terms of beginning and ending of school education, its duration, and conditions of school education. Special focus is made to the average class size, the student/teacher ratio, and other volume indicators that characterize the conditions for obtaining a quality education. The study is based on materials from the OECD (analytical reports Education at a Glance) and the World Bank, as well as Federal statistical observation data, presented in the collection "Education Indicators: 2020", prepared by the Institute for statistical research and knowledge at HSE University. - Russia lags far behind the OECD countries in terms of education funding as a percentage of GDP. This lag makes it difficult to meet the goal: to ensure the global competitiveness of the Russian school system by 2024, making it one of the top ten in the world. - In Russia, on average students study no longer than abroad, and the duration of school holidays is higher than in a large part of developed countries. - The scale of the non-state sector of school education in Russia isn’t significant, while the conditions of training (class size, student/teacher ratio) of private educational organizations differ significantly from state ones.
