Abstract: The Information Bulletin considers main practices of teaching in Russian higher education institutions. The study focuses on allocation of faculty workload, number of taught courses, student assessment and feedback, practices of research supervision, course updating and reading of professional literature. Results reveal that the faculty workload has gradually increased. This finding along with the increased requirements for publication activity might contribute to a critical level of workload and thus negatively affect the quality of teaching and research activity. Despite the reduced lecture hours, teaching workload has increased owing to seminars and practical lessons. On average professors have more than 4 courses and supervise 15 term papers during an academic year. Professors actively use interactive assessment tools and involve students in assessment process. They frequently provide feedback to students before grading with a possibility of improving a grade and conduct individual consultations through means of online communication. The majority of professors apply the results of students’ research in their publications and mention students as co-authors. While actively reading professional literature, professors mainly prefer articles in Russian academic journals. Furthermore, the research suggests that plagiarism checking has become a widespread practice and the overall tolerance for plagiarism has decreased.
