Monitoring of Education Markets and Organizations (MEMO), 2022, issue 11, 1-33

Abstract: The bulletin demonstrates the scale of student extracurricular activities in Russian universities and analyzes the possibility of its use as a supplement to educational programmers to improve students` learning outcomes. The results can be used to design the learning environment, to create new student initiatives at the university and to adjust curriculum in order to involve more students in extracurricular activities. Main takeaways:• Students of Russian universities demonstrate low involvement in extracurricular activities. The share of students involved in extracurricular activities is decreasing in senior years.• One of the main factors of students’ disengagement in extracurricular activities is the high academic load.• The lack of interest among students in extracurricular activities also explains the low involvement. Students do not see the benefits of investing time and effort in extracurricular activities.• At the same time, the results indicate a significant contribution of extracurricular activities to the development of students' skills and the formation of a positive experience of studying at the university.
