Abstract:
In this article, we apply Amartya Senʼs capability approach to the ad hoc survey that collects the information on going-out/staying-home activities. To evaluate the capability, we propose three abilities that utilize environments, human relations and individuals. These ability variables in the data are constructed from the actual behavior and the difficulties that they faced. We also propose functionings about going-our/ staying-home in four terms of safety, utility, ludus, self-respect. The ad hoc survey shows that the achievements of four functionings are actually different among those who has disability, those needs support/care and those who are above 75 years old. The data also suggests the difference in achievements of functionings comes from the endowments of three abilities.
