Abstract: This introductory note discusses the main arguments that motivated the growing interest in power measures: the substantial growth in the application of power indices to political institutions, especially the European Union, the intensive discussion of the monotonicity properties of various indices, the probabilistic interpretation of power and power measures and the more recent research to relate power measures to non-cooperative game theory. We will also discuss "how to sell power indices".
