Abstract: This paper provides evidence on the quality of the Spanish education system by measuring the efficiency and equity of each of the Autonomous Communities. To do so, we compare the productivity of each region by decomposing the gaps in terms of efficiency and technological change. Then, several dimensions of equity in terms of education are considered through multiple indicators used in the literature to measure the influence of students’ socio-economic status on their performance. Finally, we address the trade-off between educational efficiency and equity, and we discuss potential policies and interventions for improvement.
