International Journal of Academic Research in Accounting, Finance and Management Sciences, 2012, vol. 2, issue Special 1, 187-195 Abstract: The eco-efficiency situation is more present as we become more aware of the fact that nature has provided and continues to offer a variety of production and consumption goods, but one individual has to adjust responsibly to the natural capital in order to understand the need for using it in a sustainable manner. This paper looks into a new perspective some strengths and weaknesses of current management concept in using vehicle tires in the European Union and Romania. Recovery and recycling of waste materials, including those products containing rubber, such as car tires at the end of their life cycle, is a sustainable option for taking action regarding waste. However, according to the author, attention must be given to how the tires are being used. The purpose of improving tire management is to support current and future generations in their efforts to preserve the environment. Those who are involved in tire management, directly or indirectly, no matter where they work, have a responsibility to inspire a high level of trust with regards to health, safety and environment, in the spirit of a sustainable society. It is necessary that activities involving car tires to support sustainable development. Businesses, in addition to transparency and honest communication about the environmental implications of all activities related to tires, from manufacturing tires to use and ecological recovery of tires, it is necessary to have implemented environmental management systems that would ensure that all activities comply with the conditions of sustainability. This study shows that tire management efforts should not necessarily be large to be effective, but are more dependant on the attitude of tire users regarding the surroundings and society.
