Abstract: In the current context of sustainable development performance means not only to create profit at any cost but to create profits without affecting the interests of other participants in the business including without affecting the environment. Meanwhile corporate governance should ensure the achievement of these objectives by adopting the best corporate practices which means adopting a code of ethics for its own governance, transparency, including the transparency of the financial reporting, assuring independence of the members of the Board of Directors; assuring a balance between non-executive and executive members of the Board of Directors, the existence of advisory committees in governance etc. In this context, our research aims to analyze the global performances of Romanian companies on three main levels: a) financial performances; b) social and environmental performances; c) and corporate governance performances. Sample analysis is represented by 64 companies operating in various sectors of activity less financial sector. The companies are listed on the Bucharest Stock Exchange and the period of analysis is 2002-2013.
