Abstract:
"In this study the length of time spent out of work by men and women in the Federal Republic of Germany and Great Britain is examined for the period 1990-1995 on the basis of the EPAG data set. The results show that the duration of unemployment among women in eastern and western Germany was longer than that of men. At the same time it emerged that the mean duration of unemployment of both women and men in eastern Germany was clearly longer than periods of unemployment in western Germany. For Great Britain the opposite could be ascertained. The average duration of unemployment among British women was significantly lower in the period 1991-1995 than that of British men."
