Abstract:
This study examines the premise of combining work activities with the study as a strategy to acquire greater skills and competencies. These competencies facilitate the employability of graduates and are characterized by the process of labor insertion of those who complete the Degree in Tourism Management. We conduct a survey that includes a follow-up of graduates. The survey includes ten questions on the experience gained on entry into the labor market during their studies. The results show that only 39% of students worked during their studies. Of these, 25% worked throughout their studies and 34% in the intermediate stage of the degree. At the conclusion of their studies only 27% were working. Some 11% worked in their own businesses and the majority (72%) were employees in the private sector. The medium method used to identify employment opportunities are recommendations (64%). Only 5% indicated they used school job boards. We conclude that the university should strengthen the entrepreneurial spirit of students, as well as the strengthen the professional practice and formalization of linking employment opportunities for students
