Abstract:
Innovation today is fundamental for business competitiveness. Sustainable development aims to guide the direction of the company, by a path that generates wealth, contributes to social development while caring for the environment. The relationship between innovation and sustainable development, is part of the discourse for many firms. However, there are differences between the results of innovations and sustainable development. The objective of this study is to analyze innovations carried out by a sample of companies belonging to the National Network of Sustainable Rural Development (RENDRUS). A quantitative methodological strategy was followed, which consisted of selecting a non-random sample of 59 micro and small companies from RENDRUS. The results highlight the importance given to innovation, mainly to product innovations, through which an economic benefit is produced. Firms with to identify innovations, which can produce positive results in the environmental dimension. However, there exists minimum interest in social innovations, which limits an integral contribution to sustainable development
