Abstract:
This research is an exploratory study to measure burnout syndrome levels in 70 employees working at a Mexican Public University. The measuring instrument used was the Maslach Burnout Inventory (MBI, 1986). The questionnaire has 22 items with a likert scale of 6 options that go from ¨never to daily¨ to explain how often the employee perceives any of the situations described in the items. Factor analysis of the 22 items shows that the main variables of emotional exhaustion, depersonalization and personal accomplishment at work are grouped. Findings show that employees burnout syndrome has made them lower their productivity and performance and some of them show physical signs of sickness that cause absenteeism and apathy towards their job.
