Abstract:
This paper shows the level of development achieved by social capital at a firm from the metalworking Industry in the Central Region of Coahuila State, Mexico. Social capital is deemed as the ability of a human group to generate processes of social interaction that facilitate coordination and cooperation in order to obtain mutual benefit and contribute to socio-economic development. This analysis used 8 indicators to identify the strongest and the weakest elements of the social capital related to the firm: Information and communication level, trust level, cooperation, participation, level of relationships, quality of relationships, frequency of interpersonal relationships and frequency of non-interpersonal relationships. A quantitative analysis of the data from a survey of all the 32 workers of the firm shows that external social capital is limited, but internal development of social capital is strong.
