Revista Internacional Administracion & Finanzas, 2016, vol. 9, issue 1, 95-113

Abstract: This research aims to identify the main problems that face SMEs, and how they are interrelated, based on the perception of a group of expert researchers. A qualitative methodology is used from grounded theory, supported by analysis of the discourse. The results show the main problems of SMEs are high mortality, lack of planning, training, professionalization, structuring, collaborative work and absence of knowledge, compounded by trade and economic globalization, the regional context in which companies operate and family organizations property. Implications are presented to the academic and business community.
