Abstract:
At the beginning of the 21st century attitudes such as consumerism and materialism became prevalent. This occurred because there is a larger variety of products offered in the market and the consumers are provided with large means to acquire these products. This process generated debt that affects individual finances and their family or employment stability. This abnormal acquisition behavior is called ‘compulsive buying’, which is defined as a motivation to purchase that is persistent, impulsive and repetitive, and it is perceived as irresistible, pleasant. Compulsive buying reduces discomfort, but eventually causes harm to the individual and to others close to them (Friese, 1988); (Nataraajan, 1991); (Or ' Guinn, 1989). This identifies the behavior of compulsive buying between men and women in Saltillo, Coahuila Mexico. Saltillo. The area has a population of 725,123 people (based on data from the Statistical Yearbook of Coahuila INEGI 2012). We examined a sample of 656 with 96% confidence level and 4% of error margin. The results showed that women demonstrate a more compulsive attitude to make unnecessary purchases out of their budget. This produces those women happiness, and in contrast, in man the addiction becomes a pathological condition
