Brazil: Chartering a New Economic Pathway

Abstract: The presidential elections of 2018 marked an inflection point in Brazil’s quest towards establishing a sustainable economic pathway. The “populist years” of Brazil’s hard left, has resulted in economic stagnations, losses of economic competitiveness, massive corruption, and high levels of unemployment. In 2020, Brazil’s new administration is introducing a private sector-led economic growth strategy, instead of the state-led growth strategy of previous decades. This paper will elaborate on the new economic paradigm being set in place and its likely impact on Brazil’s economy and business environment.
