Edoardo D Andrassi, Carla Morrone and Francesca Ventimiglia

International Journal of Business and Management, 2025, vol. 20, issue 2, 124

Abstract: The study aims to provide a comprehensive review of the literature on emotional intelligence (EI) in order to maximise human potential. After identifying the main themes proposed to date, potential future research directions are outlined. To meet the study's objectives, a systematic review of the literature was conducted to answer the research questions. The results showed that EI is an evolving area of research that continues to produce interesting lines of examination, mainly covering six areas- Interpersonal relations, ethics, performance, work environment, leadership and well-being. In addition, some gaps have been identified for future research, highlighting the need for further research, particularly in small and medium-sized enterprises. The review facilitates the complexity of the main research on EI aimed at maximising human potential and provides recommendations for further exploration based on the results of a thematic analysis.
