Analysis of Horizontal Inequality in Brazilian Higher Education

Abstract: This article investigates the socioeconomic distribution of students across various courses in Brazilian higher education. Using data from the National Student Performance Exam (Enade) and applying a multinomial logistic regression model, the study evaluates how students’ socioeconomic characteristics apparently influence their choice of courses. The findings highlight significant disparities in Brazilian higher education, with students from less privileged social backgrounds disproportionately enrolling in courses associated with lower salary prospects in the job market.
