Key Enablers in the Implementation of KM Practices: An Empirical Study of Software SMEs in North India

Abstract: The study aims to provide the executives and scholars with an understanding of the various knowledge management (KM) practices adopted by the software Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) in north India and the enablers that aid the implementation of KM practices in these SMEs. The study is based on the primary data collected from 100 software organizations from north India with successful KM initiatives. Descriptive statistics, Spearman rank order correlation and Step-wise regression techniques were used to analyze the KM practices adopted by the software SMEs and the impact of different factors on KM practices. Top management involvement, organizational culture and infrastructure were the major factors that contributed to the implementation of KM practices. The study was restricted only to software SMEs.
