Abstract: Este trabajo revisa la literatura sobre las configuraciones estratégicas, identificando tres diferentes aproximaciones a la formación de las configuraciones -los grupos estratégicos, los tipos estratégicos reales y los tipos estratégicos ideales-, Se describen sus características distintivas, el método empleado habitualmente para explicar su efecto sobre el desempeño organizativo y sus limitaciones. De especial relevancia es la ausencia del ajuste en la delimitación del concepto de configuración y, consecuentemente, la omisión de su efecto en el desempeño organizativo. Este estudio argumenta que cuando el objetivo es explicar el efecto de la configuración sobre el desempeño organizativo, la formación de tipos estratégicos ideales que consideren explícitamente el tipo de ajuste es la opción más adecuada. / This paper goes through the literature on strategic configuration, identifying three different approaches to the configuration development -strategic groups, real strategic types, and ideal strategic types-. Their distinctive characteristics, the method normally used by them to explain their effect on performance, and their limitations are described. The lack of fit in determining the concept of configuration and, consequently, the omission of its effect on performance is especially relevant. This study argues that when the objective is to explain the effect of configuration on performance, the development of ideal strategic types, that consider explicitly the fit type, is the best option.
