Abstract: El objetivo de este trabajo es analizar las diferencias existentes en la conducta competitiva de las empresas pioneras y de sus respectivos rivales en el mercado. Se plantea un modelo teórico a partir de la literatura sobre dinámica competitiva y se contrasta empíricamente en el sector de la telefonía móvil en Europa en el período 1997-2000. Los resultados obtenidos muestran que las empresas pioneras llevan a cabo más acciones competitivas que las seguidoras al final de la muestra. Asimismo, se obtiene que todas las organizaciones tienden a especializarse en unos pocos tipos de acciones concretos parecidos a los que utilizan sus rivales. / The purpose of this paper is to analyze the differences in the competitive actions of pioneer companies and their followers. We construct a theoretical model based on competitive dinamics research. The hypotheses are tested with data on competitive moves by European mobile companies during the period 1997-2000. The results show pioneer companies tend to be more aggressive in carrying out more newly created actions than followers at the end of the sample. Also, our findings suggest that all companies, first-movers and later entrants, tend to specializing in a very narrow range of new actions type similar to those of their rivals.
