Abstract: The article establishes that competitiveness is a synthesis of a number of economic categories. It applies a general approach to the study of competitiveness of various objects from common system and methodical positions and notions of its essence. It lists main factors that influence the level of competitiveness. It considers theoretical and practical issues of formation of conditions of stable competitiveness of the national economy. It identifies main obstacles of formation of competitiveness of the Ukrainian economy. It considers the barest necessity of formation of the rating of Global Competitiveness. It outlines the most important criteria of expediency of entering the market, identifies conditions of achievement of a higher level of competitiveness by countries. It focuses on the conduct of a more active state innovation policy in achievement and holding strong market positions of the domestic economy and offers possible strategic landmarks of the further state economic policy of Ukraine on increase of the level of competitiveness for the nearest future.
