Abstract: The goal of the article is to justify theoretical and methodical approaches to realisation of alternative variants of strategic development of the Autonomous Republic of Crimea not connected with branches of its international specialisation. Analysing the economic practice of the recent time and systemising and generalising works of many scientists, the article proves a necessity of conduct of the branch diversification of Ukrainian regions in general and Autonomous Republic of Crimea in particular, which have no prospect of joining international chains of cost creation. In the result of the study the article specifies stages of transformation of economic policy in the Crimea, justifies a necessity of development of a complex programme of socio-economic development of the Autonomous Republic of Crimea, which would allow engaging the whole natural and economic potential of the region, including activation of development of local resources of minerals for construction purposes, which are in abundance in the region. This direction of development is especially valuable since mineral mining can develop in depressive regions of the Crimea. Prospects of further studies in this direction is identification of the degree of impact of growth of mineral mining for construction purposes on the general level of socio-economic development of the southern regions of Ukraine and individual branches and sectors of its economy.
