The competitive advantage of adaptive networks: an extension of the dynamic capability view

Abstract: Scholars have generally discussed dynamic capability view at a firm's level. Drawing on complexity theories, this paper extends the dynamic capability view for multiple levels of analysis such as individuals, groups, and networks. The framework explains the dynamic capability building process within complex adaptive networks, and addresses how dynamic capabilities of the multiple units contribute to their competitive advantage. This paper also discusses potential future applications of the framework at individual and value network level. When a firm's boundaries are getting blurred, this holistic understanding of competitive advantage at multiple units of analysis is very important for adapting and shaping today's hyper dynamic business ecosystem.
