Cuban-American entrepreneurs in Tampa, Florida: an evolutionary perspective

Bella L. Galperin

International Journal of Business and Globalisation, 2007, vol. 1, issue 2, 222-240

Abstract: This paper presents an evolutionary perspective on Cuban-American entrepreneurship in Tampa, Florida. Qualitative data from oral histories and archival interviews are used to examine the role of Cuban entrepreneurs in the birth of Ybor City and development of Tampa. In order to describe the current context, short case studies of four Cuban-American businesses run by third- and fourth generation family members are presented. Future opportunities for Hispanic entrepreneurs in Tampa are then discussed.
