Usage and impact of Information Technology on the SSIs performance of Jammu region, North India

Abstract: The study addresses extent of Information Technology (IT) usage and its impact on performance of small-scale industries operating in Jammu Region, North India using primary information from 144 IT-savvy Small-Scale Industries (SSIs). Study results identify two distinct IT adoption stages. The firms in first stage of IT applications focus on office automation and e-mails for data processing and website usage for promotional purposes. The second-stage firms, along with first stage e-applications, use Computer Aided Design (CAD) and Computer-Aided Manufacturing (CAM) softwares and websites specifically to communicate with business trading partners and customers. The advanced e-commerce softwares like ERP and EDI, e-applications for third stage firms are not found in Jammu region.
